Waxing
Waxing removes the hair from the root as opposed to cutting it off in the center like shaving. You get your best results when waxing consistently. The first time waxing any area is usually the most sensitive. However, with regular repeat visits every 4-6 weeks, it becomes much more comfortable. It takes about 3 waxing sessions to get your hair onto one hair growth cycle at a time, which is when you get your best results, leaving you hairless for about 3 weeks before the hair begins to come back and you notice you are ready for another waxing.
Results from waxing last much longer and leave your skin much softer than shaving, which can leave your skin prickly within just a few hours. It also reduces the dark shadow look in the underarms and bikini area for those with darker hair. Your hair grows back softer and thinner than with shaving. Plus, waxing eliminates razor burn and itchy regrowth
YES definitely! Our wax is specially designed to be gentle on the skin.
We use our own proprietary blend of hard wax that is specially formulated to be gentle on skin. Hard wax is applied at a lower temperature than soft wax, so it makes the experience a little more comfortable. Plus hard wax doesn’t leave any sticky residue behind.
We recommend coming in every 4 weeks for your waxing. Your hair grows on a 28-day cycle, so coming as close to that timeline as possible will achieve the best results. However, every person is a little different. Your aesthetician can help make a personal recommendation for you once you come in for your appointment.
1/2 inch–this length typically grows about 2 weeks since your last shave. Letting your hair get to this point will give you much better results for your first visit. If the hair is too short, the wax won’t be able to grab the hair properly, resulting in broken hairs and irritated skin.
Short hairs are impossible for the wax to grip, so they won’t be removed properly. If the hair is too short, your esthetician will let you know and have you reschedule for the appropriate amount of time to get your hair to the right length.
If your hair is too long, there can be a little more tugging, which can make the waxing a little more uncomfortable. If you are concerned that your hair is too long, you can trim the hair by using a comb to sweep the hairs up and trim any hairs above the comb.
Mother Nature may not always cooperate with your plans. However, it’s perfectly fine to get a full Brazilian wax when you’re on your period. Simply wear a tampon or menstrual cup instead of a pad, and you can attend your appointment as usual. However, skin can be more sensitive during menstruation, so please feel free to reschedule to ensure your complete comfort.
For face waxing, stop the use of Retin-A or prescription acne products for 7 days before and 2 days after. Avoid sun exposure for 3 days before and after your wax. Wait 7 days before or after any chemical peel. Try to avoid wearing makeup (if possible) to make sure skin is clean and hydrated. Do still make sure to wear SUNSCREEN!!
For body waxing, begin exfoliating every other day and moisturizing daily! 30 minutes before your appointment, you can take a pain reliever or use a topical numbing agent to help reduce pain during your service. Dry skin can result in broken hairs and damaged skin, so make sure to moisturize to get the best results.
No sweaty activities (like working out), sun, tanning, spray tan, hot tubs or saunas for 24 hours. (No sex if you’ve had a brazilian or bikini wax)
After 3 days, resume exfoliating 2-3 times per week and continue moisturizing daily. We have the perfect after care kit to help with skin care maintenance in between waxes.
Waxing is not recommended for individuals with the following health concerns:
- Type 1 diabetes
- Lupus
- Using Accutane
In addition, we recommend waiting 7 days after any of the following:
Botox, dermal fillers, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, dermaplaning, using retinol or any prescription acne medications.
Facial
There may be no such thing as an actual Fountain of Youth, but a facial comes pretty close! Our facials utilize enzyme exfoliants to rejuvenate the skin and address multiple skin concerns in a single treatment. You can expect a facial to accomplish the following:
- Smooth the texture of the skin
- Even out the skin tone
- Minimize areas of hyperpigmentation (e.g. sun spots)
- Reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles
- Shrink the appearance of pores
- Minimize the look of acne scars
Our facials also help rejuvenate sun-damaged skin—a crucial perk for Tucsonans! Plus, enzyme exfoliants support cell turnover and regeneration. They even help skin care products penetrate more deeply into the skin’s layers, which enhances their effectiveness.
It all depends on your particular skin concerns and goals for your appearance. As a general rule, our estheticians typically recommend a facial every month.
There are a few things you can do to prepare for your visit. Please avoid exfoliating your skin for a few days beforehand, and avoid using ingredients like retinol, salicylic, or glycolic acids. Do your best to avoid unprotected sun exposure, as this can increase the risk of pigmentation. When you go outdoors, apply liberal amounts of sunscreen (re-apply every two hours) and wear a wide-brimmed hat to protect your skin.
One week prior to your appointment, avoid all hair removal methods except for shaving. You’ll also need to avoid shaving for 24 hours prior to your appointment.
Following your facial, you should:
- Never go outdoors without adequate sun protection (even if it’s cloudy!).
- Apply generous amounts of sunscreen to the treated areas and re-apply sunscreen every two hours.
- Avoid extremes of heat and cold.
- Avoid scratching, rubbing, or picking at the skin.
- Moisturize the skin thoroughly every day.
- Return to your usual skincare routine after 72 hours
It’s also a good idea to avoid exercise for the first day, and to drink plenty of water to support your skin during the healing process.
Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning is a type of physical exfoliation that not only removes layers of dead skin but also peach fuzz on the surface of the skin. Dermaplaning can be done every 2 weeks, but we recommend waiting a full four weeks for optimal results. You should also avoid waxing services for any area treated with dermaplaning.
You’ll see an immediate improvement in the skin’s appearance following dermaplaning. Combined with a facial treatment, dermaplaning can have even more dramatic results. Some of the benefits you can expect include:
- Fewer fine lines and wrinkles
- Fading of acne scars
- More even skin tone and texture
- New cell regeneration
- Smoother skin
- Increased efficacy of skin products
- Removal of fine facial hair (hair does not grow back any thicker as with shaving)
Dermaplaning is particularly effective for dry, mature skin, but it’s fit for all skin types. It’s also safe for pregnant women and women who are nursing.
Prior to dermaplaning, avoid exfoliation for a few days and avoid the use of products containing retinol, salicylic, or glycolic acids. Attend your appointment with clean skin and avoid wearing makeup, if possible. You should apply sunscreen routinely before and after dermaplaning, including on the day of your appointment.
After your treatment, redness and dryness can occur for up to 24 hours. Do not scratch or peel flaky skin! You should also avoid direct sun, heat, and intense exercise. Hydrating, reparative products–ask your aesthetician for recommendations–will encourage healthy new cell growth while soothing and softening the skin. Drink plenty of water and wear your sunscreen! Discontinue use of retinol or AHA products for 72 hours after dermaplaning.
